How we check fees

Checked by Gotame.

Official sources only

Every rate comes from the platform's own pages: its fee pages, help centre, pricing page or official seller news. We never take a rate from another calculator, a forum post or a news story. If we cannot find a fee on an official page, it is not in the calculator.

The exact words, with a copy

For each fee we keep the exact words from the official page and a link to it. Where we can, we also keep a copy saved on the Internet Archive, so we can show what the page said on the day we read it. The sources box at the bottom of every calculator links to the official pages.

Tests before a page goes live

Before a calculator goes live, we run test cases through it. Where the platform publishes its own worked examples, we use those. Where it publishes none, we use its own written formulas, applied exactly as the official page states them. A calculator only goes live when every rule it uses has an official source and every test passes.

Open questions shown as notes

Sometimes a platform does not say something clearly, for example how it rounds a fee to the penny. We do not hide that. The calculator uses the most likely reading, and a short note next to that fee, and in the "How we work this out" box, tells you what is not certain.

Checked again every month

We read each platform's fee pages again about once a month, and every calculator shows the date of its last check. When a fee changes, we update the calculator and add the change toour list of fee changes.

If a calculator has not been checked for 75 days, it stays online but shows a notice near the top: "Fees last checked" with the date, and that we are re-checking them now.
