How we work this out

We use Mercari's own rules and round each fee to the nearest cent. Where Mercari leaves a question open, this is what we do:

  • Selling fee: Mercari does not say how it rounds; amounts may differ by 1 cent.
  • Shipping label (if seller pays shipping): Enter the label price shown when you list; Mercari's label rates changed on 19 Oct 2026.
  • Old fee model on never-updated listings (pre-6 Jan 2025) (not calculated): Mercari moved all listings to the current fees in January 2025; very old, never-edited listings might differ.
  • Cancellation fee (frequent cancellers) (not calculated): Mercari may charge a 5% (max $25) fee if you cancel a sale, mainly if you cancel often.

Your payout

Your payout is the item price plus any shipping the buyer pays, less the 10% selling fee and the label price. The shipping the buyer pays goes to the label, and the payout method you choose may cost a fee, as shown above. Source

Cancellations and returns

This calculator works out a normal sale. Here is what Mercari's help pages say happens when a sale is canceled or returned.

  • If the order is canceled: the buyer gets a refund and you are not paid. Mercari says: "Once an order is canceled, Sellers will not receive any payment or the item back if it was already shipped." Source
  • If you cancel the sale: Mercari may charge you a cancellation fee of 5% of the item price, up to $25.00. Mercari says: "If a seller cancels a transaction after the purchase has been initiated but before the transaction is completed, Mercari reserves the right to charge a cancelation fee of 5% of the item price (maximum of $25) to cover the cost of transaction fees and/or shipping labels." Source
  • If a canceled order is delivered anyway: Mercari says: "If the transaction qualifies for reimbursement, the seller will be reimbursed in the amount of the sales profit." Source
  • If a return is approved: the buyer sends the item back and you are not paid for the sale. Mercari says: "For completed returns, refunds are processed within 14 calendar days after the returned item is delivered to the seller." Source
  • After the order is complete: Mercari says: "After a transaction is completed, returns or refunds are not permitted." Source

Fees on a canceled or returned sale

  • Selling fee: Mercari does not say in words that the 10% fee is refunded; on a canceled or returned order the seller is simply not paid.
  • Buyer Protection fee: Mercari says the 3.6% Buyer Protection fee may not be refunded, depending on the reason for the return. Mercari's fee page: "This fee is charged to the buyer and may not be refunded, depending on the reason for a return." Source
  • The buyer's refund: Mercari says: "we’ll refund your original form of payment less any non refundable fees." It does not list which fees are not refundable. Source

Partial refunds are not described on Mercari's help pages for sellers, so this calculator does not work them out.

  • Return label: Mercari says: "For orders using a Mercari prepaid label, the cost of return shipping is covered for eligible items up to 50 lbs. … For items over 50 lbs in actual or dimensional weight, the seller is responsible for providing the return label." Source
  • HAZMAT label fee: from 1 Sep 2026, if USPS charges its fee for a box with a visible HAZMAT label, Mercari covers half and $25.00 comes off your earnings. Mercari says: "Cost sharing starting September 1, 2026: Mercari and the seller split this fee evenly — Mercari covers $25, and $25 is deducted from the seller's earnings." Source
